From
many herds of wild horses there was born a warrior steed
Who'd rather die when captured if he could not roam free
In their last days on the great plains the Lakotas chose a chief
To save them from the white man and let them live in peace
CRAZY
HORSE ... HE COULD NOT BE BROKEN
CRAZY HORSE ... THE GREAT SPIRIT HAS SPOKEN ... hoka hey,
it's a good day to die!
The
U. S. Army said, "All we want is safe passage through your
land"
The Great White Father's paper promised so the chiefs shook
their hands
But the bluecoats came to conquer when the Black Hill's gold
was found
The Lakota way of life vanished from their hunting grounds
From slaughter and starvation tribes surrendered one by one
Prisoners on the reservation underneath the wagon gun
But today the First Americans, they sun dance and pray
For return of their sacred land and the buffalo to the plains
CRAZY HORSE ... HE COULD NOT BE BROKEN
CRAZY HORSE ... THE GREAT SPIRIT HAS SPOKEN ... hoka hey!
Crazy Horse had a vision, no white man's bullet could pierce
his chest
But a bayonet in the back the captain called resisting arrest
Still the Horse could not be broken 'cause his spirit can't
be killed
When there's lightening in the stormy sky over
the Black Hills ... it's
CRAZY HORSE... HE COULD NOT BE BROKEN
CRAZY HORSE... THE GREAT SPIRIT HAS SPOKEN ... hoka hey!
Before the broken treaties, white man 's whiskey and disease
Pollution, politics, nuclear waste and penitentiaries
The Sioux worshipped Mother Earth and they lived in harmony
Now they're prisoners of the government in the land of the
free
CRAZY HORSE... HE COULD NOT BE BROKEN
CRAZY HORSE... THE GREAT SPIRIT HAS SPOKEN ... hoka hey,
it's a good day to die!
hee-ay-ee, hee-ya-hay-ee-hee-ya-ee,
hee-ya-hay-ee
... hoka hey!
